13.11/30.12 Essential Forms – Exhibition Paolo Spinoglio

From 13 November to 30 December 2022, at the BAart Space (Piazza San Giacomo).
Twenty years after the death of Paolo Spinoglio, the BAart space in Agliano Terme, in collaboration with the Paolo Spinoglio Association, presents ESSENTIAL FORMS. Sculptures and drawings. The exhibition pays homage to the artist, who was born in Turin and moved to the province of Asti in 1989, with a selection of works including sculptures in refractory earth and drawings that tell his poetics aimed at researching the essentiality of forms.
The works will be exhibited from 13 November to 30 December in the evocative spaces of the former Confraternity of San Michele, in the historic center of Agliano Terme, which has reopened its doors since 30 June thanks to the BAart project, the result of important enhancement and re-functionalization works. With the BAart project, the building, owned by the Municipality and managed by the Barbera Agliano association, closed for most of the year, is now open continuously and has become the point of reference for the enhancement of the town and the fulcrum of the cultural development of the entire community.
PAOLO SPINOGLIO
Paolo Spinoglio was born in Turin on 11 June 1956.
He began very young to learn painting and drawing techniques. After graduating from classical studies, he enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture and subsequently in Archaeology, but without significant results: a person with a restless soul, he decided to abandon his studies and devote himself professionally to sculpture, perfecting his natural talent with the sculptor Riccardo Cordero. From the outset, the plastic reflections, with a figurative imprint, found the ideal material in terracotta.
In 1989 he moved with his wife Raffaella and their two sons, Pietro and Francesco (his daughter Marta was born in 1994) to the Asti area in Mombercelli, but it is in Canelli in the Dota region where he works: in his studio, laboratory between sculptures, drawings, tools, written on the walls his works are born, or rather his “creatures” as Paolo loved to call them.
The nineties, in the succession of exhibitions, commissions and affection of collectors, represent the professional growth of Paolo. Over the years his style evolves towards essentiality with the progressive elimination of details until he reaches “those faces that smile without eyes”.
Paolo Spinoglio died in Asti on May 12, 2002.
